- The West Bengal Forest department will soon issue a notification to ban the keeping of birds of Indian species at homes, minister Jyotiptriyo Mallick said.
- The Centre has transferred Rs704 crore upfront payment that it received from the sixth round of coal mine auctions to six states including Odisha, an official statement said Thursday. The amount has been transferred to coal-bearing states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and West Bengal, the Ministry of Coal statement said.
- In view of escalating prices of essential commodities and vegetables, the state government has enhanced the cost of food given to indoor patients at all government hospitals by 30 per cent. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday approved a proposal of the Health and Family Welfare department in this regard.

- The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) network witnessed remarkable growth in July 2023, setting new records in both transaction volume and value. After a minor dip in June, UPI transactions surged by 44% year-on-year (YoY) and reached a staggering ₹15.34 lakh crore. The number of transactions also hit a new high of 996 crore, a significant increase of 58% compared to July 2022.
- The top cop of Haryana's Nuh, where communal clashes broke out on Monday during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad rally, has been transferred to the state's Bhiwani district, around 160 km away.
