The court also imposed a fine of ₹2.25 crore each on the Ansals. The fire that claimed 59 lives, had broken out at the Uphaar cinema during a film show on June 13, 1997.
- Maharashtra CID has on Monday made its first arrests in the Param Bir Singh extortion case. CID has arrested police Inspector Nandakumar Gopale and Inspector Asha Korke in the matter. The two serving officers have been arrested in the case filed at the Marine Drive police station against former Mumbai CP Param Bir Singh.
