- Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed on the evening of Wednesday, December 8. He was among the 14 people who were on board, including his wife and staff members. Thirteen people have succumbed to the crash.

- Telegana state govt has decided to withdraw its quota of 5-kg free rice, which it was extending to ration card holders under the Centre’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY)’ from this month. However, it will continue to extend the Centre’s quota of 5-kg free rice to beneficiaries as usual.
