  1.  India on Friday reported a total of 2,51,209 new COVID-19 cases today, taking the total number of infections in the country to over 4 crore 6 lakh cases. The new cases reported were 12% lower than yesterday's daily spike of 2.86 lakh cases.
  2. Days ahead of the union budget, the government today appointed Dr V Anantha Nageswaran as its Chief Economic Advisor. The advisor is the main architect of the economic survey that is released before the budget every year.
