Day Observation's

International Day of Action for Women’s Health

May 28 is the International Day of Action for Women’s Health, which for over 30 years, women’s* rights advocates and allies in the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) movement worldwide have commemorated in diverse ways.

Year after year, women, girls, advocates and allies have continued to take action and stand up for sexual and reproductive rights for what they are: an indivisible and inalienable part of our human rights.

Now, women’s human rights, and particularly sexual and reproductive rights continue to be systematically violated worldwide. Mobilization beyond our communities remains essential.  In order to resist any rollback on our rights and advance sexual and reproductive justice for all.  It is more important any attempts at curtailing women’s rights, including our human rights to decide freely upon all aspects of our bodies, our sexualities, and our lives, free from coercion, discrimination and violence should be checked.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). SRHR includes the following rights of Women:

- Receive information on sexuality.
- Sexuality education.
- Choose their partner.
- Take the decision to be sexually active or not.
- Use modern contraceptive methods.
- Access to maternity care.
- Safe abortion and post-abortion care.
- Know about prevention, care and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and infections.

World Hunger Day 2021

Everyone Deserves to Eat. It has been estimated that almost 800 million people in the world don’t have enough food to eat. This is quite a staggering figure. In 2011, The Hunger Project started an initiative known as World Hunger Day. Celebrating sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty is the aim of this day. 2018, will see people, organisations, companies and communities marking this awareness day on May 28.

The initiative recognizes the dire need to save nearly a quarter of a billion lives from malnourishment and chronic hunger. The need to provide outreach globally during the pandemic for the distribution of food is seen as paramount to save those who have been vulnerable even in pre-pandemic times.

History of the day:

World Hunger Day is an initiative by The Hunger Project, first started in the year 2011. This year marks the 10th annual WHD to look at hunger as a whole. Global Hunger Index 2019: India at 102 out of 117 countries, falls behind Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan.
