U.S. Coast Guard Day

U.S. Coast Guard Day is also known as Coast Guard Day. It is observed on 4 August to commemorate the establishment of the United States Coast Guard.  The day honour the establishment of the U.S. Coast Guard and the courageous work of the service members of the Coast Guard.

The United States Coast Guard was established on 4 August, 1790 by Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton and later on known as the Revenue Marine. Let us tell you that Alexander Hamilton authorised the construction of ten vessels which is known as Revenue Service cutters. They were intended to enforce the earliest United States tariff laws. The Coast Guard that we see today went with several changes.


Odia Sambadikata Dibasa(Odia Journalism Day.)

The Utkala Deepika was the first Odia newspaper. The weekly paper was started on 4 August 1866 by Gourishankar Ray and Babu Bichitrananda Das. Therefore, 4 August is celebrated as Odia Journalism Day. This weekly was instrumental in campaigning of bringing all Odia speaking tracts under a single province in India to develop the Odia language.

From 1866 to 1936, it continued to be published in series for seven decades. Similarly, Utkal Deepika strongly opposed the Bengali conspiracy to sink the odia language.
