World Elephant Day

World Elephant Day  is observed every year on August 12. It is one way of recognising the importance of the animal in our ecosystem and focussing on their preservation and protection. The first World Elephant Day was launched on August 12, 2012, to highlight the plight of Asian and African elephants.

World Elephant Day has been created to bring the world together to help elephants. It is a day to honour elephants, to spread awareness about the critical threats they are facing.  We are to support positive solutions that will help ensure their survival.

It suggests that the purpose of this day is to bring together help and support for elephants. This day is meant to spread awareness about the threats that elephants face due to exploitation and poaching. The goal is to look for solutions to help elephants survive in a better way.

International Youth Day

International Youth Day is celebrated each year on the 12th of August . It is an initiative that celebrates the qualities of young people and that recognises the challenges that today’s youth can face. According to the United Nations (UN), it is also observed to acknowledge and celebrate the potential of youth as partners in the global society.

This year, the theme of International Youth Day is, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health.”

International Youth Day began in 2000 and was organised by the United Nations to celebrate the contribution that young people make in education, employment, conflict resolution and social justice to name a few.

The idea for International Youth Day was proposed in 1991 by the young people who were gathered in Vienna, Austria, for the first session of the World Youth Forum of the United Nations System.

In 1998, the first session of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, adopted the resolution proclaiming 12 August as International Youth Day. The conference was hosted by the Government of Portugal in cooperation with the United Nations
