International Literacy Day is observed on 8 September every year. The observation of the day makes people aware of the importance of literacy which no doubt is a matter of dignity and human rights. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared September 8 as International Literacy Day in 1966.
This year the theme of the day has been finalised as 'Literacy for a human-centered recovery, Narrowing the digital divide.’ Theme of ILD 2021 is set to create more awareness among the people regarding digital literacy. This theme has been kept as due to coronavirus, many children across the globe were unable to access education online for lack of equipment like phones and laptops.
According to UNESCO, 773 million young adults all over the globe lack literacy skills today. ILD 2021 is an initiative that spreads awareness among the youth to be literate and curb the literacy divide.
World Physical Therapy Day is observed on 8 September every year. It provides an opportunity for physical therapists from all over the world to raise awareness about the important contribution of the profession and in improving the well-being and health of the people.
In 1996, 8 September was designated as World PT Day. This is the date World Physiotherapy was founded in 1951. The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physiotherapy community. It is an opportunity to recognise the work that physiotherapists do for their patients and community.
