National Nutrition Week 2021
National Nutrition Week was started by the members of the American Dietetic Association (now the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) in March 1973. It aimed to deliver the message of nutrition literacy to the public along with the promotion of the profession of the nutritionist. Nutrition Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 September to create awareness about health and nutrition. In 1982, National Nutrition week celebration was initiated by the Indian government. Talking about the importance of nutrition in Man Ki Baat on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the September will be observed as nutrition month.
Food provides our body with energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins, and minerals to live, grow, and function properly. Therefore, a balanced diet is important for good health and well being. Nutrition is the science or practice of consuming and utilising foods.
The theme for National Nutrition Week 2021 is ‘Eat Right, Bite by Bite’. The theme for National Nutrition Week 2018 was ‘Go Further with Food’ while in 2017 was ‘Optimal Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices: Better Child Health’
