International Translation Day

International Translation Day is celebrated on 30th September every year. It is being celebrated to pay tribute to all the translators and interpreters for their continued hard work and service to world translation.

Finding its roots back in 1953, International Translation Day is celebrated every year on 30th September. It was founded by the International Federation of Translators (IFT) on the feast day of St. Jerome. He was the first person to translate the Bible into Latin from its original Hebrew version and made it easier for everyone to read globally.

In 2017, the UN passed a resolution and declared September 30 as International Translation Day, which was signed by 11 countries including Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay, Qatar, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Vietnam.

This year’s theme is ‘United in Translation’. As the theme suggests, it will focus on world union with the help of translation. It is only because of translation that we’re able to decipher what we read and translators make sure we’re able to do that easily.
