1573 – Akbar conquered Gujarat.

1870 – Louis Napoleon Handed his sword to Kaiser William of Prussia, Defeated after 40 days of the war that confirmed Germany as the most powerful nation in Europe.

1916 – High Court of Patna was established in India.                         

1920 – Non- Cooperation Movement began in India in the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.

1942 – The German SS destroyed the Warsaw Ghetto, killing 50,000 Jews.

1945 – Vietnam declared its independence from France. Ho Chi Minh became the first president of Vietnam.

1946 – India established an interim Government. Also known as the provisional government, formed from the newly elected constituent assembly of India. They had the task of assisting the transition of British India to independence.

1969 – Automated Teller Machine (ATM), a money withdrawal machine, was introduced to the world for the first time in New York, USA.

1985 – Shri Lankan Tamil politician and former MPs M. Alalasundaram and V. Dharmalingam were shot dead.

1999 – Indian swimmer Bula Chaudhari became the first woman swimmer from Asia to swim across the English Chanel twice.

2007 – Albania became the world’s first chemical weapon nation.

2001 – Dr. Christian Barnard, South African doctor. Remembered as the pioneer of a heart transplant.

2009 – R. J. Rajshekhara Reddy, Indian politician and 14^th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He died in Helicopter Crash.
