1989  – South Africa’s biggest anti-apartheid demonstration in 30 years took place today in Cape Town. 20,000 people of all races marched to the City Hall in protest of the police killings of 23 protesters during the whites’ only election last week.

1993  – In a historic ceremony on the lawn of the White House, Israeli premier Yitzhak Rabin and PLO leader Yasir Arafat have signed a peace accord after months of secret negotiation.

2008  – Delhi, India, was hit by a series of bomb blasts, resulting in 30 deaths and 130 injuries.
