1784: Treaty between the British and Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore.

1857: National uprising of 1857 – Indians captured Delhi from the British.

1867: Luxembourg gained independence.

1888: Rao Bahadur Vaddedar conferred the title of Mahatma on the great social reformer Jyotiba Phule at Koliwada in Mandvi, Mumbai.

1949: Israel joined the United Nations.

1949: Siam officially changed its name to Thailand for the second time.

1951: President Rajendra Prasad inaugurated the newly constructed Somnath Temple.

1956: The Gold Coast was declared free from British rule. The Gold Coast, which we know today as Ghana, was signed by the British government on 6 March 1957 for its independence.

1996: Mount Everest disaster – 8 people who climbed Mount Everest on the same day died.
