1831: James Clark Ross became the first European at the North Magnetic Pole.

1874: East India Company was finally dissolved. 

1945: Establishment of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.

1955: India’s Untouchability (Offence) Act was implemented.

1980: Cable News Network (CNN) was launched.

1984: Operation Blue Star to remove Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his followers began with CRPF and BSF firing at the Guru Ram Das Langar building in the vicinity of Golden Temple. 

1996: H. D. Deve Gowda became the 11th Prime Minister of India.

2001: The infamous Nepalese royal massacre happened inside Narayanhity Royal Palace. This tragic incident left nine members of the royal family dead including King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya. 

2004: Ramesh Chandra Lahoti took over as the 35th Chief Justice of India.
