1893: The first successful open-heartsurgery took place on Chicago’s South Side by Dr. Daniel Hale Williams. The patient was James Cornish, a young man with a knife wound to the chest from a barroom brawl.
1951: India’s first Five Year Plan was published.
1969: Tiger was declared the national animal of India.
2011: Partition of African country Sudan. The southern part separated from Sudan became Southern Sudan.
