1698: Thomas Savery patented the first steam engine.

1757: The last Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-daula, was mercilessly murdered by a man in his shelter, Mohammad Baig.

1916: The Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University, the first Women’s University in India, started.

1940: Revolutionary leader Subhash Chandra Bose was arrested by the British and sent to Calcutta (now Kolkata).
