1801: The French astronomer John Louis Pons discovered the comet, Pons.

1893: The first cultured pearl was obtained by Kokichi Mikimoto. 

1950: Pakistan became a member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

1987: The world population has crossed the five billion mark. The United Nations had decided to celebrate July 11 as Population Day.

1994: Inspector General of Police Kiran Bedi received the Ramon Magsaysay Award.

2006: Mumbai train bombings: 209 people were killed in a series of bomb attacks in Mumbai, India.
