1960: Cuban Revolution: Cuba nationalized American and foreign-owned property in the nation.

1962: Jamaica gained independence from England.

1997: Sri Lanka set a new record of 952/6 in a Test match against India in Colombo. Sanat Jayasuriya scored 340 runs.
