1877 :  American astronomic Asaph Hall discovered two moons. And named them Phobos and Deimos of Planet Mars.

1942 :  Hedy Lamarr and George Antheil received a patent for a frequency-hopping spread spectrum communication system. That later became the basis for modern technologies in wireless telephones and Wi-Fi.

1943 :  C.D. Deshmukh became the first Governor of Reserve Bank of India.

1952 :  Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan was named successor to his schizophrenic father King Talal.

1961:  Former Portuguese territories Dadra and Nagar Haveli merged into India as Union Territories.

1962 : Chad became independent from France.

1965 : Violent race riots began in Watts area of Los Angeles.

2004 : The first license for the cloning of human embryos issued in the United Kingdom.

2008 : Indian Shooter Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal for the men’s 10m Air Rifle final. ( Beijing Olympic).
